High Definition Plasma

High Definition Plasma Cutting Options

In addition to standard plasma cut products, Stainless Plate Products can produce parts made by high definition plasma cutting. High definition plasma cutting has several distinct advantages over conventional plasma cutting:

  • Excellent edge quality
  • Reduced dross formation
  • Low heat affected zone
  • Pattern sizes up to 8’ wide by 24’ long
  • Permanent marking for identification, forming lines or secondary operation layout

High definition plasma offers near laser quality edge quality, in stainless, in gauges up to 2", at a fraction of the cost of laser, waterjet or other cutting methods. Plasma cut slots and tight tolerance interior details are no longer a problem. High definition plasma blanks are ideal for parts that require extensive secondary machining operations.

Argon or Air?

You can select either argon-hydrogen or air plasma. As you can see from these examples below, the argon-hydrogen cut has an attractive burnished finish. Air plasma offers a similar edge quality at a more economical price for applications where appearance is not an issue.

Improved Edge Squareness and Low Dross Formation

With the center finder as a reference, note that edge bevel, common in plasma cut parts, is virtually eliminated. This sample has not been deburred. Both the sample piece and the edge finder are set on a flat surface.
